Turkish and Australian Rheumatology

Dear Colleagues,

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the Turkish and Australian Rheumatology Joint meeting that will be held in Çanakkale, Turkey between March 18 and March 20, 2015.

Çanakkale is important for both Australian and Turkish people who share a common piece of history that took place here, and that can be considered a milestone in the history of both countries. When Claire Barrett and Mona Marabani approached first Yusuf Yazıcı and then us with the proposal of having a joint rheumatology meeting on the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli Battle, there was no hesitation from the Turkish Rheumatology Society in deciding to organize such a meeting. We are excited to be hosting this meeting in Çanakkale and we hope that this meeting will be the first of many Turkish – Australian rheumatology meetings that will be organized in both countries during the following years, expanding to include more rheumatologists from both countries and to allow more time to present current work of young rheumatologists.

When planning the scientific content of this first meeting, we had in mind a program that would enable us to share the current advances in research being conducted in Turkey and Australia, discuss hot topics about methodological issues in rheumatology, to understand the differences in our understanding of and approaches to challenging issues, to benefit from each other’s experiences in different disease states that may be more common in one geography, but not the other, and to provide a background for future collaborations. We hope to present you the Turkish and the Australian perspective for different rheumatologic conditions, methodological and practice issues as well as poster presentations of the latest works of fellows from rheumatology clinics in Turkey.

We also plan to give you the opportunity to visit some of the key sites of interest in Gallipoli, on the 18th of March, the 100th anniversary of the end of the sea battle in Gallipoli. We hope this to be a fulfilling meeting both scientifically and as a means of remembering our common past.

We look forward to seeing you in Gallipoli.
