International Maritime Human Factors Conference

The maritime industry is experiencing a rapid transformation driven by digitalisation, automation, decarbonisation, and emerging smart technologies. Despite these technological advances, the human factor remains a central element of maritime safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Recognising the continuing importance of human factors, including decision-making, well-being, and organisational culture within maritime systems, the International Maritime Human Factors Conference aims to provide a comprehensive academic and professional forum dedicated to these critical issues.

 

Building on the strong foundation of the International Maritime Human Factors Symposium (IMHFS), which has been successfully organised annually since 2022, the event is being held this year for the first time as an international academic conference. Over the past years, IMHFS has brought together academia, industry, and regulatory bodies to enhance maritime safety and operational efficiency, with a strong emphasis on the role of human and organisational factors in risk management.

 

The conference will take place on 3–5 September in Istanbul, Türkiye, and will bring together researchers, educators, industry professionals, policymakers, and maritime stakeholders. It will provide a platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge and practical experience related to human factors, safety, digital transformation, energy transition, education, governance, and sustainable maritime operations.
